Skeleton Study
I did this for a Fall 2019 drawing class in which we had to draw the skeletons set up in the class. We had to use multiple mediums and have at least one part of the drawing be realistically shaded to the best of our abilities. Also, we had to draw these on two papers and tape them together at the end. The mediums I used were charcoal, white charcoal, black ink, gesso, and Micron pens.
The skeletons I was referencing were holding hands, so I thought this would be perfect to have a little "Yin and Yang" narrative, and try out with different approaches to shading. Doing so helped me think about how light hits objects and how shadow hits objects. I also practiced with a bit of contour lining with the hands. This project also helped me with understanding the anatomy of skeletons.
Process
The left picture was me trying out using a brush with charcoal on some toned paper, the right is process of the final drawing.
